When I drill my first time, I could see, dust spread all over the area. This was really difficult to clean. So that was a major problem in my mind and researched many sources to find a better solution. Finally, I could find and test 08 DIY tips for How to collect drill dust safely. This guide includes all in detail about that topic. The coolest thing is most of them are DIY and you can try them at your home.
How to collect drill dust? You can collect drill dust when drilling using these methods such as using a paper bag, polythene bag, magnet, pasted polythene on the surface, predrilled plastic plate, using a dust collector, a vacuum cleaner, and using a dust trap.
Buying a drilling dust collector is not a proper solution every time. So there are ways to collect the drilling dust when you drill at home. These ways are based on the simple things that you can find around your house. So let’s see what these smart ways for drilling dust collecting are.
1. Use a Paper Bag

You can collect dust by using a paper bag or paper. If you have the paper, fold it like a bag and then paste it below the expected drilling place vertically. So it is a great solution for drilling dust collecting. When you using any type of drill for drilling the wall you can use this by sticking to the wall.
This is environmentally friendly, and you can make it any time anywhere for vertical surface drilling.
2. Use a Polythene Bag

When you are drilling vertically, you can use a polythene bag. You just need a bit thickness polythene bag and then paste it by glue tapes under the hole to be drilled and then start the drilling. So you will see drilled dust directly flow into the bag. That is a reals DIY solution for drill dust collecting at home.
3. Use a Magnet

When you are drilling steel. You will need a dust (particles) collector. Else those will damage your eyes. Therefore you can use a magnet for this. First, find a magnet removed from the speaker (doughnut magnet). And then mark the hole and place the magnet as you can see the marked point. And then try to drill.
All removed drill particles will remain on the magnet due to magnetic power. So this is amazing. You can use this for verticle, and overhead usage also.
4. Use a Pasted Polythene on surface
When you are drilling the overhead concrete or brick, you will need a real solution for the dust collecting. If you can find polythene and glue tape, you can do this. You just need polythene and then past with tapes as the point is covered. This is transparent, and now you can see the drilling point.
Now you can drill it through the polythene and concrete. all debris will remain on the polythene. After the drilling is finished, you can collect the dust.
Drilling dust causes some diseases such as Silicosis. And also glass drilling dust also very harmful to the user.
5. Use a Predrilled Plastic Plate

If you are using an SDS plus or SDS max hammer drill, there will be more size particles. Sometimes those are unable to remain on the polythene. So if you can use a plastic plate with predrilled, you can collect the dust easily.
Use a plastic plate and drill the center. Then put it through the drill bit. If you are wise, you can use a spring mechanism for that. So now you can use that for the overhead drilling.
6. Use a Drill Dust Collector
This is the best solution that we can use. This is a permanent solution. There are dust collectors in the market, and those are a bit expensive. When drilling, you have to use it to mount the drill bit.
Some tools can be fixed with the drill bit. When the tool is moved, the collecter is also moved. When you use this, you do not need support from another person. So if you are able to use that. It is a real solution for dust collecting.
7. Use a Vaccum Cleaner

A suction machine is used in domestic for cleaning the floor from dust. Believe me; you can use this to collect dust when you are drilling. Remove the front bar and use it with the pipe. You will need someone to help with this.
When you are drilling ask someone to aim the pipe towards the drill bit. So it will suck all dust and parts of the flute out.
Drilling can be done horizontally, vertically, and over the head. So horizontal drilling will not provide much dust, and that will not harm the user, but vertical and overhead drilling should need a collect dust collecting method.
8. Use a Dust Trap

Dust trap is widely used in dust collecting. There are many dust traps in the market. when you buy it, please make sure that the dust trap is longer than the drill bit. If not, you will not be able to collect the dust while drilling.
